Movie: Network
Perhaps the greatest movie ever made on the power of mass media, Sidney Lumet’s 1976 classic Network is one of the quintessential movie satires, as applicable to the social media age as it was to the broadcast television boom. Written by Paddy Chayefsky, it is the story of a network news anchor’s mental health crisis being exploited for ratings and profit. Starring Peter Finch, Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Robert Duvall, and Ned Beatty, its sharpness and dark humour is legendary. “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!”
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 8:00.
