Movie: The Birdcage
A landmark LGBTQ comedy of errors from legendary filmmakers Mike Nichols and Elaine May, The Birdcage is witty, fun, and bombastically farcical. Based on the acclaimed French play La Cage aux Folles, it is the story of a gay couple who run a south Florida nightclub having to pose as straight for the sake of their son’s new fiancé, whose father is a notorious conservative senator. The film stars Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, and Dianne Wiest. A sharp and outrageous screwball film, sweet and effective thirty years later.
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 8:00.
