Movie: But I'm a Cheerleader
A cult classic satire well ahead of its time. Directed by Jamie Babbit, But I’m a Cheerleader is about a high school cheerleader sent to a conversion therapy camp on the suspicion from her religious family that she is a lesbian -witnessing their ridiculous methods of ‘rehabilitation’ while falling for one of her fellow attendees. Presented in an ironically stylized bubblegum world, the film is a sly and still potent skewering of homophobia, heteronormativity, and conversion therapy practices, while also managing a sincere coming-of-age narrative and cute romance. The film stars Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, Cathy Moriarty, Melanie Lynskey, and RuPaul.
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 7:30.
Admission is free. No food or drink permitted in the Library Theatre. For more information, contact the Library at 306-692-2787.
