MJPL ARCHIVES DEPARTMENT

The MJPL archives department was formed in the late 1960s with a mandate to collect materials relating to the history and development of the City of Moose Jaw and the surrounding area. The archive is open by appointment. Call the Library at 306-692-2787 to schedule an appointment.

   

Our holdings (1885-present) include:

  • Henderson Directories 1909-2000

  • Local newspapers 1885 – 2017 (microfilm)

  • Photograph collection – over 6000 photographs,  including those of Lewis Rice

  • Personal papers of local citizens and records of local organizations

  • Clippings about the history of Moose Jaw and surrounding area, organized by subject

  • Maps of Moose Jaw and Saskatchewan

  • Moose Jaw high school yearbooks

  • Periodical collection, including Saskatchewan History, Briarpatch, Blue Jay and many others

  • Canadiana book collection, searchable via the library catalogue

   

  

Finding Aids

  • To search MJPLA’s holdings only, enter your search terms in the box under the 'Search Our Collection' heading on the left hand side of the page.

*Please note that although we are constantly updating the database, not all of our finding aids are available online yet. All of our findings aids are available in the archive. Please contact the reference department for assistance.

Donations

   

The Moose Jaw Public Library Archives accepts donations of photographs and documentary records that fit its mandate "to collect materials relating to the history and development of Moose Jaw and the surrounding area". This includes material that is about Moose Jaw and area, created in Moose Jaw and area or from someone who lived in Moose Jaw and area.

Donors are asked to complete a donation agreement form and provide a list of donated items in addition to any background information. Donated material becomes the property of the Archives and can be made available to researchers on request.

If you wish to make a monetary donation to the Archives, we accept cheque or cash. You may also make a donation online right now.
