Movie: City of God
A visceral unique panorama crime film set in the favelas of Brazil, City of God is a powerful, eclectic gang saga directed by Fernando Meirelles. Following a plethora of characters with relationships to organized crime in the slum neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro, it charts the circumstances surrounding a vicious gang war. Starring a cast of largely non-professional actors including Alexandre Rodrigues, Leandro Firmino, Seu Jorge, and Alice Braga, it is a film known for its innovative intense style and the grounded gravity of its storytelling and social commentary. Presented in Portuguese with English subtitles.
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 8:10.
