Movie: The Seed of the Sacred Fig
A consummate example of cinema as means of vital political statement, Mohammad Rasoulof’s courageous The Seed of the Sacred Fig is an intense drama of authoritarianism, moral compromise, and violent activist suppression. Set during Iran’s Mahsa Amini protests of 2022, the film follows the family of a judge ideologically split along generational lines. Dotted throughout with real subversive footage of government and police violence, the film is a critical snapshot of that moment in time as well as a resonant treatise on traditionalism vs. revolution. Starring Missagh Zareh and Soheila Golestani, both now prohibited from leaving Iran, as well as Mahsa Rostami and Setareh Maleki, currently in exile alongside Rasoulof from their home country.
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 8:50.
