Join the MJMAG and MJPL for a special screening of "Fafard" — an award-nominated, feature-length documentary celebrating the life and work of iconic Canadian sculptor Joe Fafard.
Join us for a special event showcase Thursday September 18th at 6:30 pm of Fafard, the Canadian festival-nominated documentary on the final years of local artist Joe Fafard, presented by the Moose Jaw Public Library and the Moose Jaw Museum & Art Gallery.
Featuring a Q&A afterward with director Jan Nowina-Zarzycki and a reception in the Art Gallery.
After receiving a tragic cancer diagnosis, Joe sets out to finish two seminal works. He recounts his childhood in a small French/Métis community, his thoughts about death and art and some of the backstories to his works while giving us a fascinating look inside his process within his foundry. A very personal depiction of the artist at work, while facing his own mortality.
"Fafard is a rare and stellar documentary, a thoughtful, deeply compassionate film about an important sculptor confronting his mortality after a life devoted to making art. It’s difficult to imagine any viewer not being moved and uplifted by this depiction of an artist who describes himself as a “realist” but who was a true prairie visionary.” -Guy Vanderhaeghe
"An amazingly vivid and empathetic portrait of a great Canadian artist. Watching Fafard the documentary made me wish I had known Fafard the person.” -Yawn Temiseva
