Movie: Girlhood
An image of a community and particular coming-of-age experience rarely glimpsed in cinema, Céline Sciamma’s Girlhood is the striking, compelling story of a black teenager with a rough home life in an impoverished Parisian neighbourhood and her relationship with a gang of new troublemaker friends. A unique and powerful drama of adolescence, kinship, race, and class in modern-day France, as well as the strong bonds between girls, the movie stars Karidja Touré, Assa Sylla, Lindsay Karimoh, and Mariétou Touré. The film is presented in French with English subtitles.
Showtime begins at 6:00 pm with a discussion afterwards at about 8:00.
